Semiotic analysis of a double page spread

This double page spread is that featured on the cover of the Kerrang! magazine. The story is split onto two pages, one which is dedicated to a photo of the woman, and the other has all the information about a certain subject which the woman feels strongly about. On the picture page of the double page spread the woman is zipping up her jacket which goes against the stereotypical view of woman be sexually objectified as she’s trying to .cover herself up rather than show everything. This is encouraged by the line “A lot of male musicians are whores”, so by zipping her jacket up, she’s stating that she isn’t like a male musician and she is also saying that girls are often show in a promiscuous light but it’s the male musicians that are worse. The main reason why the woman has stated this fact is because she has probably been slated in previous articles for being ‘giddy’ round men, or by the way she has been represented by the media. She is also bowing her head this connotes to the reader that she is sad or ashamed about something which is why she is zipping her jacket up. The black leather outfit contrasts very well against the white background which makes the page bold and stand out.

In this video I opened a new blank file and created a text box, which I typed in. I then cropped it to a appropriate size ( I repeated this but made the second text box smaller.) To create a shadow effect on the writing I duplicated both of the text boxes and put the duplicated versions 'behind' the originals but I made the opacity 40% to make it faded. After, I gave the text a plastic effect by draging the plastic effect box over the text boxes, I typed in how harsh I wanted the plastic effect to appear on my typography. Becuase I used a bright yellow colour on the text, I decided to create a black rectangle box behind it to make my typography stand out.
